Hipster Fluff - Week 2 Spotlight

Hipster Fluff is based in Alexandria, VA and makes adorable AI2 and Fitted diapers for you little one.  Currently the owner, Taylor, has over 120 different fabrics to chose from for custom made diapers.  Taylor and Hipster Fluff are officially opening their doors (well cyber doors) on March 13th at 8 pm EST.  Taylor has been working on stocking her store for the GRAND OPENING and has some wonderful diapers that will be available tomorrow night.

Taylor lives close enough to me that she was willing to meet at Starbucks to give me my wonderful diaper in person.  I got to talk to her for a while and to meet her cute little boy, Camden.  My 2 little girls got to play with Camden a little and I got to know Taylor.  She is a wonderful Mama and makes the cutest diapers :)  Make sure to check her out on Facebook and please let her know that SAH Cloth Diapering Mama sent you!  Also check out her Hyena Cart Store where her diapers will be available for sale on March 13, 2012.

Now for a little about Hipster Fluff from Taylor herself:

Can you give us a little back story about you/kids/family?

I grew up in Alexandria VA and lived in Florida for a brief time. I've never been one being happy sitting behind a desk, I like to do things and be creative. I'm a 21 year old married, WAHM to a crazy 18 month old little boy named Camden. My husband Steven is enlisting in the Marines, so we won't be in VA much longer. I'm looking forward to seeing where it takes us.

Why and how did you get into making your own diapers?

I fell in love with cloth diapering before my son was even born. I would grab a WAHM every now and again when we could afford it and I got some mass produced brands as well- if they were on sale! I decided to try making my own-- except I didn't have a sewing machine and didn't ever learn how to sew. So I bought a sewing machine and taught myself! I love sewing. It's relaxing and rewarding and I absolutely love helping others with their cloth addiction! I prefer WAHM diapers because they are made one at a time, by hand, and not on a factory belt. Love and hard work goes into each and every one of them!

What type of diapers do you make?

I make both AI2 and fitted diapers. AI2's are waterproof, whereas fitteds are not. They are wonderful for letting your little one's bum breathe and you can go coverless at home, so long as you change them as you feel the outer start to get damp.

How do you chose the fabrics that you carry?

As far as purchasing the fabrics, I try to go for the "hot" prints, or prints people request. My goal is to create cute cloth diapers that everyone will love so I like to have a variety. I try to pick an equal number of girls and boy prints as well as some gender neutral ones to stock each week. I try to stock different prints in girl and boy versions as well as gender neutral ones!

Where did the name Hipster Fluff come from?

Honestly Hipster Fluff came out of thin air. I toyed with a few different names and I just didn't care for them too much, nothing "fit". My husband likes to tease me and call me a tree hugger and a hippy, especially when I go on my rants about cloth  diapers and unpaper towels, and I thought, hey why not use that to my advantage! And voila- Hipster Fluff was born. I think it fits very well, I mean, everyone who cloth diapers has a little bit of hippy in them, right? I know I have lots of hippy in me!
