Hipster Fluff OS AI2 - Review

Outside of Hipster Fluff
The Hipster Fluff OS (one-size) AI2 (all-in-2) is the 1st WAHM diaper I have EVER tried!!!  I can tell you I was not disappointed.  I have my favorite "big" name diapers (like most do) but I have NOTHING like my Hipster Fluff!  Not only does the fabric make it stand out but the overall design.  Hipster Fluff officially opens their cyber doors TONIGHT (3/13) at 8 pm EST on Hyenacart.  You can also check Taylor out on Facebook to see all the available fabric options and to get the last Hip News!!

Inside of Hipster Fluff
I personally meet with the creator of Hipster Fluffy, Taylor, about 2 weeks ago.  She is a wonderful young Mother with a passion for cloth diapering and making them adorable yet functional.  Taylor let me chose the fabric that I wanted (which is not always the case with reviews but greatly appreciated) and matched the snaps and inner lining to my chose.  When I saw the picture Taylor had posted on Facebook I thought, that is adorable!!!  Then I saw my name under it and squealed with delight :)  The fabric I chose goes with just about everything I wear on Baby K and is one of my favorite to show off under a skirt.  When I showed my husband the diaper that night he was extremely surprised that it was handmade and very impressed by it.  He is not against but not totally for CDing so for him to take an interest in the diaper made me excited.  Taylor has done a wonderful job with her diapers and I see big things in her future!!

About the diaper (from Taylor)

Smallest setting (Baby K's setting)
The OS Hipster Fluff AI2 diaper has the following features:
  • 19" snap down rise fits most babies from 9-32+ lbs
  • Turned and top stiched for babies comfort against sensitive skin
  • Cotton print outer
  • Hidden PUL
  • Micro-Chamois inner for a stay dry lining against your babies bum.
  • Hidden snaps

Two snap-in snake style soaker options offers versatility.
  • OBF- 4 layers of organic bamboo fleece topped with cotton velour. When folded become 8 thirsty layers.  My favorite of the soakers
  • Zorb- Our zorb soaker is one layer of zorb sandwiched between two layers of organic bamboo fleece. Folded up it is equivalent to 12 layers of OBF.
My Thoughts

Medium Setting
Ease:  The OS AI2 is extremely easy to use.  There is a snap at the back of the diaper to attach your insert.  This is great so that the insert stays in place and also so you can just throw it in the diaper bag and not have to search for the insert while you are out.  There is a total of 3 rise settings on the diaper.  That means that there are to sets of snaps on the front to use plus you are able to use the diaper fully unsnapped.  Baby K is 19.2 lbs and 11 months.  I currently have her on the lowest rise setting.  So all you have to do is snap down the rise setting, snap in the insert, fold it however you like, and snap it on baby.
Largest Setting

Price:  The OS AI2 is $22 plus shipping and also has a newborn AI2 for $15 plus shipping.  $22 is about the price of most WAHM diapers but I have seen some that are up to $30!!  I can tell you that $22 is a great price for this diaper and I will be getting another one :)

OBF soaker
When and Why I use it:  I don't just use my Hipster Fluff because it was given to me to review.  I truly use it every other day (have to wash it sometime).  It has become one of those diapers that I use when I know people will see her in it.  It is just so cute that I want to show it off :)  I have not used it at nap time because of that reason.  I don't want to put her in her cutest diaper to go and be in her room and it not be seen.  I have had Baby K's Hipster Fluff on her for probably around 2 1/2 hours with out any leaks.  And since it is an AI2 if you get extra inserts you can reuse the shell!!!

Recommend:  I cannot recommend this diaper enough.  If you are going to add one diaper to your collection soon it has to be this one!!!  Between the adorable fabrics that Taylor has, the great design, and the overall craftsmanship you cannot lose.  Your little one will look like a little Hipster and be a total trendsetter!!!

Thank you so much Taylor for such a WONDERFUL and adorable diaper.

Hipster Fluff - Week 2 Spotlight

Hipster Fluff is based in Alexandria, VA and makes adorable AI2 and Fitted diapers for you little one.  Currently the owner, Taylor, has over 120 different fabrics to chose from for custom made diapers.  Taylor and Hipster Fluff are officially opening their doors (well cyber doors) on March 13th at 8 pm EST.  Taylor has been working on stocking her store for the GRAND OPENING and has some wonderful diapers that will be available tomorrow night.

Taylor lives close enough to me that she was willing to meet at Starbucks to give me my wonderful diaper in person.  I got to talk to her for a while and to meet her cute little boy, Camden.  My 2 little girls got to play with Camden a little and I got to know Taylor.  She is a wonderful Mama and makes the cutest diapers :)  Make sure to check her out on Facebook and please let her know that SAH Cloth Diapering Mama sent you!  Also check out her Hyena Cart Store where her diapers will be available for sale on March 13, 2012.

Now for a little about Hipster Fluff from Taylor herself:

Can you give us a little back story about you/kids/family?

I grew up in Alexandria VA and lived in Florida for a brief time. I've never been one being happy sitting behind a desk, I like to do things and be creative. I'm a 21 year old married, WAHM to a crazy 18 month old little boy named Camden. My husband Steven is enlisting in the Marines, so we won't be in VA much longer. I'm looking forward to seeing where it takes us.

Why and how did you get into making your own diapers?

I fell in love with cloth diapering before my son was even born. I would grab a WAHM every now and again when we could afford it and I got some mass produced brands as well- if they were on sale! I decided to try making my own-- except I didn't have a sewing machine and didn't ever learn how to sew. So I bought a sewing machine and taught myself! I love sewing. It's relaxing and rewarding and I absolutely love helping others with their cloth addiction! I prefer WAHM diapers because they are made one at a time, by hand, and not on a factory belt. Love and hard work goes into each and every one of them!

What type of diapers do you make?

I make both AI2 and fitted diapers. AI2's are waterproof, whereas fitteds are not. They are wonderful for letting your little one's bum breathe and you can go coverless at home, so long as you change them as you feel the outer start to get damp.

How do you chose the fabrics that you carry?

As far as purchasing the fabrics, I try to go for the "hot" prints, or prints people request. My goal is to create cute cloth diapers that everyone will love so I like to have a variety. I try to pick an equal number of girls and boy prints as well as some gender neutral ones to stock each week. I try to stock different prints in girl and boy versions as well as gender neutral ones!

Where did the name Hipster Fluff come from?

Honestly Hipster Fluff came out of thin air. I toyed with a few different names and I just didn't care for them too much, nothing "fit". My husband likes to tease me and call me a tree hugger and a hippy, especially when I go on my rants about cloth  diapers and unpaper towels, and I thought, hey why not use that to my advantage! And voila- Hipster Fluff was born. I think it fits very well, I mean, everyone who cloth diapers has a little bit of hippy in them, right? I know I have lots of hippy in me!

Agoo Leggings - Review

Packaging
I don't know if you are like me, but as soon as we get home from being out Baby K's pants are OFF :)  After we walk in the door I change her diaper but I never put her pants back on.  There is really no need for her to have them on when we are at home.  It makes diaper changes so much easier and who wants to hide that adorable diaper?!?!  We live in VA and even though we have been having unusually warm weather I feel bad on those cold days when Baby K has no pants on.  Her little legs have to be cold, right?

For Mom and Keiki sent me a wonderful pair of Agoo Leggings which solves the cold leg problem.  They are super soft and the most adorable print.  They are made of bamboo which is why they are so soft.  They fit both Baby K and A (who is 3 1/2).  They fit A great under a skirt and are just a little bit big on Baby K.  On Baby K I have been scrunching them up a little but have had no problems with them staying on her.  She ALWAYS pulls off socks the second you put them on her but with the Agoo Leggings she has yet to mess with them.  Today she wore them with an adorable little jean skirt and was still able to show off her cute little diaper.  A told me that they were gorgeous.  She should know since she is my little fashionista :)

Baby K in her Agoo Leggings
For Mom and Keiki carries over 15 prints of the Agoo Leggings.  They have super girly prints as well as prints for the boys, including soccer balls (we are a soccer family)!!  I love that I can wear these on both of my children and that they will grow with Baby K.  It is not like the ones that you buy at Target (for about the same price) that only fit for a month or two and look horrible after you wash them.  I have washed the ones sent to me about 5 times already :) and they still look as great as when I took them out of the package.

A wearing the same leggings
You will have a chance on Friday to win your own pair of Agoo Leggings from For Mom and Keiki!!!  Thank you so much Gloria for your generosity.  Make sure to check her out on Facebook and let her know you are from SAH Cloth Diapering Mama!!

Diapers Galore!!! Part 3

I am super excited that after this post you will have all the information (I feel is important) about ALL the different kinds of diapers.  But at the same time I will be sad to see my 1st series come to an end.  It is a bitter sweet moment for me.  This last part will consist of a BUNCH of letters :)  AIO, AI2, SIO....what do they mean?

AIO

AIO?  What is AIO?  AIO stands for All in One.  An All in One is probably the easiest diaper that there is next to a disposable.  Basically an AIO is a disposable the you wash.  An AIO has all parts sewn into the diaper.  What you get is what you get.  You do not need extra soaker pads to absorb and you do not need a cover to keep everything dry.  I call AIO the Daddy Dummy Diaper (no offense).  My husband does not really want anything to do with my CDs.  But when I go out I leave him the Thirsties Duo AIO as an extra diaper.  It is the only one that he will put on Baby K unless he is forced to put her to bed while I am out.

I have tried 2 different brands of AIOs.  The 1st one I have to sadly say I hated!  I know hated is a strong word but I really did.  I was so sad because it was SO cute!  But it had side snaps and I was not a fan of those.  And I had to have it on the 3rd snap out of 6 plus I had to have the rise totally unsnapped to fit on Baby K at 8 months old.  It was suppose to be a OS (one-size) diaper and fit through potty training but I don't see how it could.  The 2nd AIO I tried I LOVE!!!  It is super easy to use, comes in Aplix or snap (front) and is as easy to use as a disposable.  The only downside to AIOs is that they do take a longer time to dry when you wash them.

AIOs (according to kellyscloset.com)
  • These cloth diapers are the easiest and most leak proof diapers to use and have a built in diaper cover sewn into the cotton or fleece layer.
  •  They fasten with snaps or Velcro and work like the ease of a disposable.
  •  NO diaper cover required.
As with all diapers AIOs can range greatly in price.  The cheapest one I found at Kelly's Closet is the Thirsties Duo All-in-One for $15.75 and the most expensive is the BumGenius! Elemental Organic All-in-One One Size Diaper for $24.97.  At Abby's Lane the cheapest I found is the Thirsties Duo All-in-One for $15 and the most expensive is the Swaddlebees OS Simplex for $25.95.

To cloth diaper my almost 11 month old full time and to wash every other day I have a stash of 12 diapers (this does not include my overnight diapers).  So for 12 diapers you could spend $180 on the lowest end or $311.40 on the highest end.  Most CD families have a mix and match of their types and brands of diapers.  AIOs make great daycare diapers or diapers for people who watch your child and know nothing about cloth diapering.

SIO and AI2

SIOs and AI2s (sometimes know as hybrid diapers) are pretty much the same thing so I will explain them both together.  SIO stands for Snap-in-One and AI2 stands for All-in-Two.  Most people consider SIO and AI2 the same thing.  The main difference I have seen between the two is that the SIO inserts snap in (hence the name) and the AI2 inserts just lay in the diaper.  SIO and AI2 are like the AIO but all the parts come apart to make cleaning and dryer faster and easier.

I use SIOs on a DAILY basis.  I own 4 itti bitti SIOs and they are a go to diaper.  I especially use them when I know it might be a little while before Baby K gets changed.  The longest she has gone in one is 3 1/2 hours and not a single leak.  I LOVE my SIOs and would never get rid of them.  I have not tried an official (branded as) AI2.  I just love my itti bittis so much that I don't really need another brand :)

Hybrids (SIO/AI2) (according to Kellyscloset.com)
  • Hybrid diapers offer parents a flexible, modern, eco-friendly alternative to traditional disposable diapers.
  • The convenience of disposable diapers coupled with the reusability of cloth diaper covers, hybrid diapers morph the best of both worlds.
  • Each diaper consists of a washable, reusable cloth diaper cover which can be used with either biodegradable disposable inserts or washable cloth inserts; the choice is yours!
The price ranges I found at kellyscloset.com are the Flip: Stay Dry Individual (One-Size Diaper Cover & One-Size Stay-Dry Insert) for $16.95 as the cheapest and $16.95 for the GroVia shell and at least $9.50 for the booster as the most expensive.  At Abbyslane.com I found the Flip as the cheapest at $16.95 and the GroVia shell at $16.95 and at least $9.50 for the booster as the most expensive.

I hope all of this information in the 3 part series has helped.  I hope I have not confused you more than you already were in the 1st place :) I know it is a lot of information to take in but if you have any further questions please feel free to email me at SAH.Cloth.Diapering.Mama@gmail.com and I will be happy to help you in any way I can.
