Diaper Junction is a Cloth Diapering store in Virginia Beach, VA that is run BY Moms FOR Moms!!  It was started by a CD Mom, Bryana, who wanted to help moms connect with cloth diapering and give them a place where they can find out everything they need to know.  For over 8 years Diaper Junction has been helping parents incorporate cloth into their lives.

Diaper Junction is more than your average CD store.  They have Certified Pre-Owned (not cars!) cloth diapers to help with budget needs.  They also have a 30 Test-Drive on certain diapers.  Who doesn't want to try before they commit?  They also have a stash cash program where you can earn FREE diapers!!  They produce and post how to diaper videos.  And they have even started their OWN brand of CDs, Diaper Rite!!!  They are like a 1 stop shop :)

Nursing Is Now A Thing Of The Past :(

Baby K turned 15 months yesterday on July 12, 2012.  I can't believe she is such a big girl now!!  Time has flown and I don't know where the last couple years of my life have gone.  They just seem to be going by so quickly and I am afraid that I am missing out on a ton of stuff.  Even though I am a stay at home mom, some days it feels like I just don't get to spend enough time with my girls.  At the end of those types of days I always want to go and climb in bed with them just to get a little more time.  But I don't because they are always sleeping so peacefully and I would not want to disturb them just because Mommy is having a moment :)  And nursing Baby K has given me a few extra minutes each day with just her.

So I have been very slowly weaning Baby K since around the time she turned 13 months or so.  By the time she turned 1 she was really only nursing maybe at most 3-4 times a day.  Once when she woke up, once when she went to bed, and then usually at least once or twice during the day.  Around 13 months I cut her down to just in the morning and before bed.  She was such a distracted eater by this time that she really wasn't getting anything during the day anyway.  And please keep in mind that she was already doing some whole milk by the time she turned 1 so it was not like we were not giving her anything to drink :)

I was happy and content with nursing Baby K in the morning and before bed.  And I had no set time of when I was going to cut her off completely.  I personally did not see a reason why I needed to stop.  I was happy, she was happy, so who cared.  She probably wasn't getting much to begin with but I didn't have a plan for stopping.

I never had to make the decision when A was a baby of when to stop nursing.  She had horrible reflux, always had to be supplemented with formula, I was working and was only allowed to pump 1 time a day.  So at 6 months I pumped one day and it didn't even fill the bottom of the bottles, so I was done.  Baby K has been a different story since I have always stayed home with her and things were really different.

My goal with Baby K was to make it past where I did with A.  At times I was not sure if I would make it to 1 year.  But then she turned 1 and I thought why do I have to stop just because she is 1 :)  So I continued.  But when I decided I was going to take A to see Beauty and the Beast at night and leave Hubby home to watch Baby K I had to do something.  She had never really gone to bed "nicely" without nursing.

So I decided the day before the show that I would not nurse her to bed that night.  She wasn't ecstatic about it but she wasn't totally distraught either.  So the morning of Beauty and The Beast I decided that I was still going to nurse her in the morning.  Why cut her off all together?  So from then on I decided that she would be nursed just in the morning.  There would never be a morning where I was not home to nurse her so what was the big deal :)

So for about the past week she would scream and cry when I brought her in the bedroom in the morning to nurse her.  She just wasn't happy about something.  But she would cry for about a minute or 2 and then she would latch on.  Nurse for about 5-10 minutes and be a super happy girl.  Well the screaming for no reason got old real quick :)  So I decided on the 11th that it would be the last morning that I would nurse my baby (tearing as typing :( ).  She was turning 15 months the next day and it seemed like she was done with and screaming was her way of telling me :(

So yesterday morning I went and got the girls up, took them both downstairs, got them their sippys of milk, and never heard a peep out of Baby K.  It seemed like that was what she wanted her mornings to be like.  It was the reaction that you would want from your baby when it is time to wean.  But at the same time not really what I wanted.

I am not ready for her to not be my baby anymore and nursing was the last baby thing that I had with her.  They grow up so fast that I wanted to hold on to her as long as I could.  But they do have to grow up sometime.  A is well beyond her years, even at 3, and I don't want to hold Baby K back just because she is the baby.  I definitely notice differences in the two of them.  Yes I know each child is different but I also notice that I treat Baby K more like a baby than I ever did with A.

So here we are now at FULL day 2 with no nursing and Baby K has not tried to nurse once.  There has been no pulling on my shirts, no bang on my chest, NOTHING.  I guess it is a good thing but I am having a hard time with it :(  Luckily she is still a cuddle baby so it has made it a little easier.  She still loves to lay with me and climb all over me and that has not changed :)  My biggest fear with the whole thing was that she was no longer going to need ME for anything.  That all I was good for was a little shot of milk in the morning to start her day.  But that really isn't true :)

Sustainablebabyish Multi-Size Snapless Fitted - Review (Sponsored by Dearest Diapers)

I am apart of a couple different blogging groups on Facebook.  These groups are full of fellow bloggers and also some great CD and Natural Parenting stores.  These groups have been an awesome help with questions I have had as well as getting me in touch with potential sponsors.

How my diaper was packaged

One day while I was looking through the most recent interactions in one of these groups I came across a post from the awesome Rana from Dearest Diapers (FB) looking for potential bloggers to do a review and giveaway for a product that she carries.  And she carries a ton of different items :). Obviously, I got super excited to work with Dearest Diapers since they are one of the stores that I hear so many people talk about!  They also have such a huge selection of products that most people will be able to find everything they are looking for.

Outside of Diaper
Rana ended up emailing me after I told her I would be interested in working with her asking for some suggestions of what to review.  I gave her a list of about 5 different products that I would love to try out and that I knew my fans would love.  On my list was Sustainablebabyish Fitteds!  I have heard a ton about their products and Rana said she hadn't done a review/giveaway for one of their products yet!

Rana sent me a Sustainablebabyish Snapless-Multi Fitted Diaper!  She sent me an adorable Lilac serged diaper for Baby K!  It came packaged wonderfully, in Red Tissue paper with one of her adorable business card attached with a cute note on the back saying that she hopes I like it :)  I love when sponsors/stores take an extra second to make what they are sending you more personable.  It makes me feel like they really care about me and that I am working/communicating with a real person and not just a computer.  Thanks so much for that little extra Rana!!!  It truly means a lot!

A Little About the Diaper (from the Manufacturer)

The first multi-size cloth diaper from Sustainablebabyish.  Heavy organic bamboo|cotton terry body with turned and top-stitched leg elastic. includes two 3-layer organic bamboo fleece doublers for adjustable absorbency & one diaper pin.  Add more doublers for additional layers.

Pin or Snappi® friendly.  Snapless-multi fitteds work very well with either option.

On Baby K with a Snappi
The Sustainablebabyish snapless-multi is based on the pattern for our best selling bamboo fleece night time fitteds.  Slightly trimmer body & longer wings allow securing with one pin & fast diaper changes.  The same fit you have come to love, now in a multi-size, snapless version, with adjustable absorbency & comfortable T&T leg casings.  Fold the front down for a shorter rise.

weight range approximately 10-35 lbs

This fitted cloth diaper requires a cover.  Pair with Sustainablebabyish wool for a leak free combination.

one diaper-one tree
A tree is planted for every sustainablebabyish cloth diaper you purchase.

My Thoughts

Ease:  At 1st when I looked at the Sustainablebabyish Snapless-Multi Fitted I have to admit that I was a little intimidated!  Well for one there are NO snaps and NO aplix :)  So you have the diaper and then 2 boosters.  But I was able to figure it out extremely fast and it was not as bad as I thought at 1st glance.  When I use it on Baby K (nighttime) I lay both doublers inside the diaper right under the elastic at the back of the diaper.  I then lay Baby K in the diaper pull it between her legs and then I fold over the top (fold down rise).  I then bring both tabs over and Snappi it together.  No that bad :)

Price:  The Snapless- Multi Fitted is $20.95 or you can get one of Dearest Diapers Custom Colors for $21.45.  Around $20 is how much you are going to pay for a good quality Fitted diaper.  I think the cheapest I have seen are $18 but I haven't used one of those.  All of the Fitteds that I do own are in the $20-$22 range.  So for how great this diaper is the price is well worth it!

When and Why I use it:  I use my Fitteds for nighttime.  They are my favorite nighttime solution and they work great!!!  I have used this diaper during the day the 1st couple times I wore it on Baby K until I had fully prepped the diaper.  I do have to say with both doublers in it is a little to bulky for during the day.  But really during the day you do not need both doublers because baby is not in the diaper for 12+ hours :)  If I were to use it for daytime use I would 1st try it with out any doubler (probably just 1 for nap time) and then if it wasn't lasting as long as I feel it should I would then bump it up to 1 doubler.  But it works GREAT for at night and that is really where my stash is lacking.

Recommend:  If you are having a hard time finding a nighttime solution that works for you I would definitely recommend trying the Sustainablebabyish Snapless-Multi Fitted diaper.  It has last on Baby K for around 14 hours and still not all of the diaper was wet!!!  The one thing that I did not like about the diaper was where they have their tag at.  It really is not in a convenient place for using a Snappi.  I have to put it to the outside of the tag and it just make it a little more difficult.  It wouldn't be so bad if the company was wasn't so long :)

Overall (diaper):  I would give this diaper an A!!!  It has been a great nighttime solution and the terry outside is super soft.  I love the cute colored serging that makes the diaper extra cute and not just all white :)  This is a diaper I feel everyone who has a baby that sleeps all night NEEDS to try!!!

Up close view of the thoughtful message from Rana
Overall (Dearest Diapers):  I would give Rana and Dearest Diapers an A+++...well you get the idea.  Rana has been wonderful during this review.  She let me give her a list of items that I thought would be great to review.  She shipped the diaper out to me super quick and with a nice little personalization on the back of her business card.  Rana is someone that I would love to work with again in the future and that I feel everyone needs to have an interaction with in some way.  Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart Rana and Dearest Diapers!!!  You have been a wonderful sponsor and please keep up the wonderful work that you are doing out there in Cali!

All opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.  This diaper was provided by Dearest Diapers and not Sustainablebabyish for review.  No additional compensation was accepted for this review.

Pictures of the inside/part of the diaper and tush view coming in the next couple days :)  Tomorrow is diaper laundry day!!!

Hey Dude Diapers AI2 - Review

Outside of the Diaper
I have been in contact with Crissy from Hey Dude Diapers for about a month or so now.  She was recommended to me and I to her from another WAHM that I have worked with in the past.  Crissy has been awesome enough to allow me to review one of her AI2 diapers with a fold down rise.  She even allowed me to pick my own fabric (which I LOVE)!!!!  I saw in her pictures a diaper she had made for her son Jude that was an American Flag Dipe!!!  I decided right then that Baby K needed one also.  I knew that I would be getting the diaper in time for her to wear for the 4th of July and was super excited about it!!!
Inside of the diaper

My diaper came about 2-3 weeks ago.  So at this point it has been wash (prepped) fully and I have worn it on Baby K enough times to get a really good feel for it.  I have to say that the diaper itself is adorable :) with Red and White Strips all down the front and then the back and wings are Blue with White Stars!!!  Baby K will be wearing this diaper ALL day on the 4th :)  Especially since it is an AI2 and I can just change out the insert :)  I can't wait :)

You can find Crissy stocking Hey Dude Diapers every Tuesday at 4 p.m. at her Hyena Cart Store.  She has also teamed up with Taylor from Hipster Fluff to have a special group on Facebook for info, special drawings and to B/S/T your Hipsters and Hey Dudes!!!  To be apart of the group you must request to join :)

A Little About the Diaper

With rise folded down and cross snapped
Hey Dude Diapers have a fold down rise or a snap down rise and cross over waist snaps. AI2s have two parts to the diaper, the shell and the insert. The AI2 shell is made up of cotton outer, a hidden layer of waterproof fabric called PUL, and then a very soft cotton velour inner.  The OS diaper fits around 10-35+ lbs.

Hey Dude Diapers snake style soakers are four layers of organic bamboo velour, topped with two layer of 100% cotton flannel. When folded in half they create 8 thirsty layers (plus four additional layers of flannel.) Because the soaker is made from all natural fibers, it will become more absorbent the more it is washed.

My Thoughts

Rise unfolded and snapped in the middle
Ease:  AI2 are a little more tricky to use that just snap it on baby.  But not that much harder :)  All I do to put it on baby K is to lay her in the diaper, fold the top layer all the way up, I then fold the bottom layer of the soaker twice so there is a little more padding between her legs, fold the top layer 1/2 way down and then snap the diaper on her :)  Once you do it once or twice you will know how it fits best on your baby and you will be a pro.  I fold all of my AI2 soakers like this so the technique transfers from 1 diaper to the next.

Price:  The Hey Dude AI2 is $22 which is a very reasonable price for a WAHM diaper.  I don't think I have seen any that are cheaper but I know I have seen a bunch that are more expensive.  Crissy also carries NB AI2s for $17, NB OBF Fitted $20, OBF Fitted OS $25, NB Hybrid $21, Hybrid OS $26, NB Hemp Fitted $22, Hemp Fitted OS $27, extra boosters for $4 and extra soakers for $6.  Overall extremely reasonably priced.

When and Why I use it:  I use this diaper during the day time.  I could use it at nap because of its absorbency but I don't like to use my cutest diapers while she is sleeping :)  I love to wear this diaper with just a cute little white tang top and no bottoms.  It makes an adorable and patriotic look!  I use this diaper because I truly LOVE it!  I love the way it looks and I love the way it fits Baby K.  I feel that this diaper will be able to be worn for a long time.  Right now at almost 15 months baby K has the wings ALL the way crossed over.  This is the ONLY diaper that I have that fits her like that.  You could use it on smaller babies but you might have some extra wing left over :)

Recommend:  Of Course I recommend Hey Dude Diapers!!  Crissy has wonderfully constructed diapers, adorable prints and is just a pleasure all around to work with.  She has been great with this review and is even bringing 2 different giveaways (You can find both under the giveaway tab, running 7/4-7/13).
Overall:  I would give Crissy and Hey Dude Diapers an A!!!  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the diaper :)  If I didn't already have an over following stash of diapers I would definitely get the one in the Mickey Print.  And I would love to try a WAHM Fitted!!!  Maybe someday :)

I would like to thank Crissy so much for allowing me to do this review for her.  It has been my pleasure getting to know Hey Dude Diapers and you!!  You make a wonderful diaper that works great for my little girl!

All opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.  This diaper was provided by Hey Dude Diapers for review.  No additional compensation was accepted for this review.

HomeSchooling?!?!

Let me just say I would like to know when I became the SAH, cloth diapering, baby wearing, nursing, and now homeschooling Mama!!! :)  I never in a million years thought that this is who I would become...but I have and I LOVE it :)  So this coming year I made the decision that I am going to homeschool A!!!

A will be 4 in September so technically she does not need any "formal" schooling until next year but she NEEDS something :)  This past year A attending 3 year old preschool at a Church of Christ that is about 30 minutes from us.  I LOVED her being there and she loved it there.  But sadly the drive just became too much :(  This next year she would be going to school for 3 days for 3 hours a day and I would be driving 2 hours a day to take her and then pick her up.  It was just going to be too much and gas is just too expensive.  So my only options were to either continue to send her where she was at (which really wasn't an option), send her somewhere closer to home for double the cost, do nothing with her or homeschool her.

I decided on the homeschool route so that I could teach A what I thought she needed to learn and what she wanted to learn.  I taught preschool for a number of years and know what she needs to know going into Kindergarten.  Sadly at 3 1/2 though she already knows just about everything she needs to know to go into Kindergarten and a lot of what she will know when she is done with Kindergarten.  Yes she is actually that smart and yes I know ALL parents say that.  But she takes after her Daddy!  Especially in Math and Science.  Plus I have a degree in Mathematics so it does explain a lot :)

I put a lot and I mean A LOT of thought and prayer into my decision.  I actually had started thinking about this route before I even put her in school last year.  But I really wanted to try her out somewhere and have her learn from someone other than me and the Hubby.  But after last year I think this is now the best decision for us.  A knew a lot going into school last year so I really don't feel that she learned that much.  Don't get me wrong I loved her school and I think they do a great job.  But a lot of kids go into preschool not having a real learning foundation.  Where A had already learn a lot at home from us.  She already knew how to spell her name going into school (and she started before she turned 3), how to count to around 14, all her colors and shapes, and a couple of other things.  She learned how to spell her nickname the very 1st week of school and I had never worked on the with her before :)

So overall, sending her to preschool last year was great because she learned how to learn from someone else and in a classroom setting.  But staying home and learning this year I think will be a great advantage for her :)  I have not decided if homeschooling is going to be a permanent thing in my house or not yet.  I am going to see how this year goes and then decided from there.  I do think that if A goes to Kindergarten in public school next year she will be bored.  So that is a major thing to take into consideration.  But depending on how she does this year and if I can keep up with it, her and still taking care of the house and Baby K will be the main deciding factor.

See what curriculum I chose and why!!! (Coming Soon)
